Cut Copy – “Where I’m Going”

Australian synth/dance-pop trio Cut Copy are at work on their self-produced (and self-pronounced) Tusk-influenced third album. The rhythmic, anthemic (“yeah, yeah, yeah, woo”), smeary, and psychedelic “Where I’m Going”’s likely appearing on said record. Much of it reminds me of the Beach Boys-via-E6 (on an electro kick).

Local Natives – “Wide Eyes (Teen Daze Remix)”

Mysterious Canadians Teen Daze do this melodic, synth-saturated version of Local Natives’s “Wide Eyes.” The Suckers remix of this song was all deconstructed and noisy, but this one has a lush, polished feel unlike either the Suckers version or the original.

When we posted “Fight Song” from We Are The World, I made a bad Bruised Man Group pun — because of the Los Angeles electro dance band/troupe’s distinct, but somehow familiar visual aesthetic. Speaking of which, the Clay Stones standout finally has itself a video. If you recall, when the collection’s title track got the visual treatment, it was all burnt forest, bodysuits, and nature worship. For “Fight Song,” Jonathon Narducci takes things indoors to a green, hazy, somehow windy space to enact what looks like Lovecraft-inspired Kabuki.

Might wanna clone yourself during the headliner hours. From the first announce Lollapalooza set itself apart with an unusually robust slate of headliners, and since Lolla’s one of the few fests concurrently running two headliners a night, it set itself apart for maximum FOMO potential. The schedule is now in; let the dilemma commence. Friday night can either watch the Strokes’ first U.S. show in years (8:30PM) or seee how what Lady Gaga can do with a $150,000 stage show (8PM). (Yes, there’s 30 minutes there, but Grant Park takes a year to traverse.) Sunday night it’s the return of Arcade Fire (8:30PM) or the big Soundgarden reunion (8PM). Saturday might be the easiest — Green Day (7:45) or a Cut Copy/Phoenix double-up. Remember Chicago has that 10PM sound curfew, so when these sets end … the night is just beginning. Here’s the full schedule in case you wanna play spot the conflict with the rest of the days:
