Following in Panda Bear’s footsteps, Avey Tare has himself a lone Animal album coming out this fall. Down There, recorded by the most elusive of Animal Collective members Deakin, is Avey’s first complete solo outing. It was reportedly inspired by crocodiles (reptiles, not the San Diego band). Take a closer look at the croc cover art while you read over the tracklist.
Animal Collective recently put up a video for “Guys Eyes,” much in the same way they released their “Brothersport” video, by just putting it up on myanimalhome.net. This video is the band’s summer look: Surfing, skating, and other bits of sun-faded new and vintage footage.
Victoria Bergsman covered Animal Collective’s “My Girls” as “My Boys” on her second Taken By Trees album East Of Eden. She also got Panda Bear to provide backing vocals on an original album track, “Anna.” The latter has received the remix treatment from Montreal’s CFCF. If you recall, Bergsman recorded Eden in Pakistan with the help of regional Sufi musicians. The stripped down, spacious new version feels less connected to a specific place (or, an idea of that specific place).
Besides the new Arcade Fire single, the weekend also brought news of an upcoming 7″ of the title track from Panda Bear’s Tomboy album. While the LP still doesn’t have a release date, the single (backed with “Slow Motion”) will be out in mid-July. According to the description on Amazon, this is “… the first in a series of limited edition 7″ singles by Animal Collective’s Panda Bear. There will be several limited singles total (on different labels), and each one will bring us closer and closer to the much anticipated release of the Tomboy full length.” Hopefully one of those Tomboy singles will come out via Tommy Boy.
Back from Mali, Deakin performed a sold out solo show at L.A.’s Eagle Rock Center Of The Arts on Sunday, the night before ODDSAC premiered at the The ArcLight. Drawlings, aka Avey Tare’s sister Abby Portner who you should also remember from her “In The Flowers” video, opened. We were flying back from Austin at the time (plus we live in New York) so we missed it, but reader Joshua Lipton was there and snapped a few photos.
Lotus just announced that they’ll be live streaming tonight’s show from the Vogue in Indianapolis, IN. The band takes the stage around 9:45-9:50pm EST. You can stream it via LiveStream.com, HiddenRelic.net, or HippieSeed.com. Heady.

The list-topping oddballs of Animal Collective are taking a break from solo gigs and DJ sets to set their sights on the Sundance Film Festival where, tonight, they unveil their ODDSAC, “an earthy, psychedelic experimental narrative infused with [the band’s] aural and musical sensibilities.” In other words it’s a visual album, and it has a trailer which is trippy, if you can believe that. Gaga set to perform at February 16 show, where Animal Collective, Black Eyed Peas, Jay-Z are also up for awards.

Lady Gaga is continuing her reign as pop’s newest princess into 2010. The Grammy-nominated singer is now up for three Brit Awards this February: International Female Solo Artist, International Album (for The Fame) and International Breakthrough Act.
Gaga will be up against Ladyhawke, Norah Jones, Rihanna and Shakira in the International Female Solo Artist category. Also nominated in the International Album category are Animal Collective (Merriweather Post Pavilion), the Black Eyed Peas (The E.N.D.), Empire of the Sun (Walking on a Dream) and Jay-Z (The Blueprint 3). Taylor Swift faces Gaga in the International Breakthrough Act category, along with Animal Collective, Daniel Merriweather and Empire of the Sun.
Lady Gaga, JLS and Kasabian will also perform at the ceremony, taking place on February 16 in London. British Male Solo Artist nominee Robbie Williams, who is being honored with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award, will close out the show with a performance.
Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Jay-Z, Michael Bublé and Seasick Steve are all up for International Male Solo Artist. British pop singer Lily Allen is also up for three Brit Awards, including British Female Solo Artist and British Single for her song “The Fear.” Other notable nominees include La Roux, Leona Lewis and two-time nominee Friendly Fires.
As the Brit Awards marks its 30th year, the show is awarding an Album of 30 Years prize. The nominees are Coldplay’s A Rush of Blood to the Head, Dido’s No Angel, Oasis’ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, the Verve’s Urban Hymns and Travis’ The Man Who.
