When you first compare the original “Comfortable, Comparable” with the Chairlift remix, it seems mislabeled. Hooray For Earth’s feels like the rework — it’s got a pounding rhythm and layers of space synths and guitar crunch. The Chairlift remix is the mellower version, with Noel Heroux’s vocals re-cut, sped up, slowed down, stretched over a hazy five minutes. It’s like they picked up on the gentleness of Heroux’s voice and the soft-edged synth symphony, rather than the beat. I’m so used to remixes getting the burst of extra energy, so it’s nice to hear opposite.

One of the things I liked about early Telepathe was the spooky, hollowed, and echoing sound. While it’s a fun record, the Dave Sitek-produced Dance Mother loses that vibe amid the hi-fi layers. Which is why it’s interesting hearing standout “So Fine” paired down and minimized by Chairlift. You can spot Charlift’s Caroline Polachek dancing in the Burzum-toting “So Fine” video, so they clearly dug that version, but this takes it to a darker party down the street. It’s one of three remixes on the CD version of Dance Mother.
