I know I’ve waxed a bit on this in the past, but there’s an album from my musical past that continues to have a firm place on my iPhone these days and I’m convinced that not enough people were ever converted to its genius. The album was a self-titled debut from Heroic Doses, put out […]

So far we’ve heard “Tiger,” “If You Return,” and “Groove Me” from Dave Sitek’s upcoming Maximum Balloon album. This track features Tunde Adebimpe, and will probably remind you that it’s been two years since TV On The Radio released Dear Science. The track is hollow enough to let Adebimpe’s meaty vocals fill most of the space. Listen:

After reminding us “The End Of The World Is Bigger Than Love” (aka the summer is best experienced in 3/4 time), Lekman appeared on the Australian game show Spicks And Specks dressed like Kraftwerk’s Florian Schneider (or Gary Numan’s Swedish cousin) to sing lines from Hedda Gabler set to the tunes of Haddaway’s “What Is Love,” the Zorba The Greek theme, etc., before telling a leg-humping anecdote about Drew Barrymore.

Back in June we got a clip of “Tiger,” the first taste from Dave Sitek’s solo project Maximum Balloon. Now the song has a video, which focuses on guest vocalist Aku (of Dragons of Zynth), but also contains maximum balloons and medium Sitek. I dig Sitek’s lipsyncing and suit here. Reminds me of the “Oh Yeah” video, but so do most things.

According to the press release, UK trio Archie Bronson Outfit “… turned to friend Alex Smith who edited footage of the long lost British Z-movie classic Hoola to the song.” That’s probably a joke. The footage “… made a few decades ago” looks as if it was filmed yesterday, with special effects from two decades ago. Or maybe it was shot in the same timeless dimension as their vikings-in-space clip for “Shark’s Tooth.” Either way, Smith and the band should happily take credit for the video’s hilarious and horrific attacking brain (and low-budget brain ooze). Also funny: The mid-song commercial break, where the band play actors in a sex hotline commercial.

iClips.net just announced that they’ll be broadcasting live from Nateva Festival over Fourth of July weekend. If you’re somehow not seeing live music that weekend and maybe you’re chained to your computer, this is a healthy alternative to the fear of missing out issues you’ll be suffering from as a result. iClips.net is pleased to […]

In April we posted UK trio We Have Band’s “Honeytrap” from their debut WHB. The song has its charms, but it’s not as likable as post-punk sing-a-long “Oh!,” a track that sounds familiar after half a listen. This stylish Blake Claridge-directed video would work well as a GAP commercial or as a These New Puritans clip (who you may think about even if you close your eyes).
