This countrified cover of Death Cab For Cutie’s “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” shows up on Amy Millan’s second solo album Masters Of The Burial. The Broken Social Scene/Stars singer’s been performing it live for years, but this is the first studio version of the somber Plans song. Her new collection also includes covers of songs by two very Canadian artists — Sarah (no relation to Nick) Harmer’s old band Weeping Tile and folk/country singer Jenny Whiteley — along with guest spots form Stars bandmate Evan Cranley, Leslie Feist, and the Stills’ Liam O’Neil, among others. Here, we get the lady’s side of the post-death pact.

As reported, this Tuesday was a busy release day for Jack White and his Third Man Records: the label put out singles by Dan Sartain (”Bohemian Groove”) and Transit (”C’mon And Ride”) — both produced by the Third Man main man — as well as the track that made the three-pack singles release day a press event in the first place, “Fly Farm Blues.” It’s Jack unaccompanied in fuzzbucket slide-guitar mode on a song we’re told was “written on the spot … at the request of film director Davis Guggenheim while filming the incredible new guitar documentary It Might Get Loud,” which is all about JW, the Edge, and Jimmy Page, and how they love their guitars. So this isn’t a grandly premeditated dose of Jack songwriting, it’s more just a glimpse at Jack inhabiting some standard blues in his not particularly standard, singularly scorched sorta way. There’s a good chance the majority of MGMT’s core audience know nothing about the Clean. This isn’t their fault. They were barely alive during the seminal New Zealand band’s heyday. Still, that didn’t stop Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser from putting their spin on the group’s classic 1981 calling card “Anything Could Happen” at All Points West. Good timing: As we’ve mentioned, the Clean have a gorgeous new album Mister Pop out soon on Merge. Who knows, maybe this will lead MGMT’s minions to David Kilgour & Co. Anything could happen:
