You heard Vampire Weekend’s “Jonathan Low” (one of VW’s top three songs about vampires) and before that Muse’s “Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)” (inescapable at vampire proms this month). Now you can check out Beck & Bat For Lashes’ much anticipated collab…
As we mentioned, Muse is one of many surprising bands on the Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack (though, they’re probably the least-surprising). Their contribution, “Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)” is out today as the first single from the soundtrack. Just to connect things a bit, their song “Supermassive Black Hole” was featured in the first Twilight film. My title for theirTwilight: Breaking Dawn soundtrack song: “White Dwarfs (That Makes Sense).” Author Stephenie Meyer is a big fan, so is Glenn Beck, maybe you are too:
A lot’s changed since the last Twilight album. For starters, there are those pesky teenage vampire movies of the same name. I asked new Twilight member Stavros about them a few months ago: “This is a hilarious question, and one I have contemplated as well. I personally am not one to make that call. I don’t think it has even been a question in the minds of the other guys…” Outside of that are various shifts within the band’s control. For starters, as the accompanying press photo makes obvious, the guys ditched the corpse paint and shadowy graveyard photo shoots, reflecting a shift in American black metal in general. Same goes for the inclusion of new non-BM bandmates in their bigger, denser, more forward-thinking sound: Stavros of the Atlas Moth, Isis’s Aaron Turner, and über producer Sanford Parker (Minsk) have joined Blake Judd (Nachtmystium), Jameson (Krieg) and Jef Whitehead (Leviathan, Lurker Of Chalice, Nachtmystium) after the departure of Scott Conner (Xasthur) an Hildolf (Draugar). Lichens’ Robert Lowe adds clean guest vocals. Without knowing any of this Monument To Time End is obviously a different monster than the 2005 self-titled debut. It’s also a better monster. (Yes, there are Isis moments. Yes, they work.) Get acquainted via “8,000 Years.”
Another bloodthirsty cast, CW’s “The Vampire Diaries,” also takes honors at the ceremony on May 13.

There weren’t many surprises when it comes to gossip blog Hollywood Life’s announcement of who made the cut for their 12th annual Young Hollywood Awards. Few things are hotter right now than “Twilight,” Justin Bieber, Disney stars or any combination of the three.
So it certainly wasn’t a shocker to learn that Bieber — who’s enjoyed an extraordinarily fast ride to fame over the past year — is the recipient of the Young Hollywood Newcomer of the Year award.
But the Canadian phenom couldn’t best the competition when it came to the Artist of the Year award. That honor went to another wildly popular teen: 17-year-old JoBro Nick Jonas, who nabbed the win, thanks to his solo debut with Nick Jonas and the Administration.
Also making the list were two young “Twilight” stars — but, surprisingly, not the pair fans might have expected. KStew and RPattz took home no prizes, but Nikki Reed was named Superstar in the Making, while Ashley Greene is the Young Hollywood Style Icon. Another vampire ensemble did make the cut, though, with the cast of the popular CW series “The Vampire Diaries” being named Cast to Watch.
Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, got a nod on the list for Breakthrough of the Year, after co-starring with Cyrus in “The Last Song.” Hemsworth has a couple of films in the pipeline, including “The Throwback” and 2011’s “Arabian Nights.” The rising actor also boasts the prestigious honor of being one of Hollywood Crush’s Hump Day Hotties.
The show will be held on May 13 in Los Angeles. Other notable winners included Whitney Cummings (Comedian of the Year), Chad Ochocinco (Athlete of the Year), Nina Dobrev (Young Hollywood Making Their Mark) and “90210’s” Jessica Stroup (Young Hollywood Sparkling Performance).
Were you surprised at any of the winners? Let us know in the comments!

Singer/rapper says Gaga’s music isn’t weird enough in NME interview.
By Jocelyn Vena

M.I.A. is known for her outspoken views, and in a new interview with British music magazine NME, the MC says she’s got a bone to pick with some of the latest pop culture trends, namely Lady Gaga and “Twilight.”
M.I.A., who is releasing her follow-up to 2007’s Kala later this year, took issue with the fact that some people compare her eclectic style to Lady Gaga’s. In the interview, which appears in the print version of the magazine but has been transcribed by Oh Know They Didn’t, accused Gaga of being a “mimic” rather than making genuinely strange music.
“[T]here’s Lady Gaga — people say we’re similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same!” M.I.A. said. “None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I f—ing do!
“That’s a talent and she’s got a great team behind her, but she’s the industry last’s stab at making itself important, saying, ‘You need our money behind you, the endorsements, the stadiums,’ ” she said. “Respect to her, she’s keeping a hundred thousand people in work.”
When asked about the state of record labels in the changing music industry these days, M.I.A. took another shot at Gaga. “Are [labels] even interested in making money from music anymore? Lady Gaga plugs 15 things in her new video. Dude, she even plugs a burger!” she said. “That’s probably how they’re making money right now — buying up the burger joint, putting the burger in a music video and making loads of burger money.”
And though the British Sri Lankan artist has always been very concerned with the visual element of her work, she said “it’s not like ‘Haus of Gaga.’ Me blindfolded with naked men feeding me apples and sh–.”
M.I.A. risked making other enemies in the pop-culture world by declaring that she had no interest in participating in a “Twilight” movie sountrack. “They asked me,” she revealed. “Luckily Jimmy [Iovine, chairman of Interscope] had beef with the ‘Twilight’ people. So he stepped in and told them to f— off.”

‘Twilight’ author’s first adult novel is well on its way to the big screen.
By Christoper Campbell

Stephanie Meyer
Photo: MTV News
With the film installments of her “Twilight” novels not yet fully completed, Stephenie Meyer is already well into the development of her next film franchise. According to Deadline.com, the adaptation of the author’s first adult novel, “The Host,” could go before cameras as early as next year.
Published in 2008, the book involves benevolent yet parasitic aliens who have taken over the minds of almost all the humans on Earth. Upon its release, Meyer described the plot to MTV News as ” ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers,’ if the aliens had won.”
Although financing is not yet in place and no definite shooting schedule is planned for the sci-fi/horror hybrid, producer Steve Schwartz divulged that “Truman Show” Oscar-nominee Andrew Niccol is currently working on his third draft of the screenplay, with the author’s close involvement. Niccol is also signed on to direct the film.
Schwartz, who is now budgeting the project with co-producers Paula Mae Schwartz and Nick Wechsler, again noted that Meyer handpicked the filmmaker because Niccol’s directorial debut, “Gattaca,” is one of her favorite science-fiction films. However, his hire was not immediate.
“We spent time with Andrew,” Schwartz explained. “Listened to his vision, introduced Andrew to Stephenie and she responded. There is very good chemistry in this group. Stephenie is a very smart collaborator, and she had an intuitive strong hunch he would be the right guy. Based on the script we’ve seen, we think she was right.”
Fans will have to wait and see if Meyer is also right about her dream cast for the film, which she told MTV News in 2008 includes Robert Redford, Matt Damon and both Ben and Casey Affleck. Another uncertainty is when — or if — Meyer will ever finish her two planned sequels to “The Host.”
Regardless of whether or not the adaptation spawns further novels or movies, a 2011 shoot could put “The Host” in theaters before the “Twilight Saga” ends, depending on when the second part to the two-film adaptation of “Breaking Dawn” is released.
Plus, with Meyer’s announcement of the “Eclipse” spin-off novella “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner,” there’s now a tease that Summit Entertainment could extend the hot vampire film series even further than a fifth installment.

‘Twilight’ saga star talks about the need for an actor to relinquish control in order to grow.

Robert Pattinson on the March cover of <i>Details</i> magazine
Photo: <i>Details</i>
Crazed fans, Twilight moms and candy-stealing elephants: It’s all in a day’s work for Robert Pattinson. The actor talks about all of the above in the cover story of next month’s Details, in an article written by screenwriter Jenny Lumet.
Best known for penning “Rachel Getting Married,” Lumet said she first met Pattinson in November of 2008 when she was doing some rewrite work for “Remember Me” and has kept in touch with him through filming of the movie.
The article reveals a variety of interesting and unusual details about Pattinson — his fascination with certain disfiguring diseases, an insatiable hunger built out of not trusting room service food, among others — but beyond that, the interview is one of the most revealing looks at Pattinson to date, largely because it is told through the eyes of a friend.
Pattinson explains about his struggle with fame, and the revelations he had about himself during the time from “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” to “New Moon.”
“When I was 17 until, I don’t know, 20, I had this massive, baseless confidence. This very clear idea of myself and how I would achieve success, which involved making decisions,” Pattinson said. “Having control. Except you have to figure out whether the way you think at 19 or 20 has any value. And eventually I understood, with all that control, which was probably illusory, I wasn’t progressing. So now I’m relinquishing a bit. I’ll be a tiny bit naked.
“Except tonight I won’t,” he added with a laugh, “because it’s f—ing freezing and my b—s will shrivel up.”
With next month’s “Remember Me,” Lumet wrote that it could be the first chance for audiences to see a Robert Pattinson that had truly let go. His character, Tyler, is a young man closed off from the world until he meets a woman (Emilie de Ravin) and has to choose whether to continue separated from the world or to embrace life.
“Tyler is so aware of his actions,” Pattinson said. “But he has no idea whether they’re of any value at all. Can you be a person if you live in the bubble? He’s stuck in the middle. At the same time, he’s lucky to have the choice. Conflict is innate in a lucky person.”
And when asked what attracted him to the role, Pattinson was quick to make the comparisons between himself and Tyler. “I’m a lucky person. Thank God,” he said. “And I’m conflicted. Thank God.”
One aspect of Pattinson’s life that was interestingly absent from the piece was Kristen Stewart. The article didn’t contain a single mention of Pattinson’s fellow “Twilight Saga” star, whose name seems to be mentioned every time his is.
As for the elephants, Pattinson had his run-in with them while he was in discussions with Sean Penn to star in “Water for Elephants.” A female elephant lifted him up into her mouth.
“I was holding on to her head, and as I slowly let go she tightened her grip really carefully until I’m just upside down in her mouth and she’s going through my pockets with her trunk, looking for peppermints,” he recalled. “It was the best day of my life.”

‘Twilight’ star’s photo reportedly gets court security guards in trouble.

Earlier this week, “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart was on jury duty, and now details about the case she sat on are emerging. Stewart was reportedly a member of a Los Angeles County jury that was deciding the fate of a man accused of trying to solicit a prostitute.
According to TMZ, Stewart sat on a three-day trial; the defendant was found not guilty of trying to pay an undercover police officer for sex. The man pleaded not guilty, with his defense attorney arguing that since he does not speak English very well, he didn’t understand the situation he was in with the undercover cop and was therefore innocent.
TMZ further reported that when the trial was over, Stewart asked to keep her juror badge and was allowed to. However, a security guard who posed for a photo with the actress at the courthouse earlier this week may be in hot water for snapping a shot of Stewart, according to E! Online.
The security guard reportedly asked to take a photo with Stewart, who did so. The photo was then posted online by the guard’s friend’s wife before it was quickly picked up by various media outlets and made public. Now it seems that the people involved may have violated some rules and may lose their jobs for taking a picture with the actress.
“Cancelled because unfortunately the photo that went up from Kristen in court was stolen and put on several blogs and got to the media and reached the ears of the court,” the wife wrote online. “Right now my husband and the security guard are in trouble for it having gone up and second because it is confidential when celebrities are in court. Now I feel bad. … I am really scared, because I think it is possible that they could lose their jobs.”

The 36th Annual People’s Choice Awards kicked off awards season Wednesday (January 6) with a star-studded spectacle hosted by Queen Latifah at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The biggest celebrities in music, television and film were honored by the fans who support them, with a record 60 million votes cast in deciding the winners.
The top honors for the night went to “Twilight,” which led the multi-nomination contenders with four wins across six categories. “New Moon” star Taylor Lautner took home Favorite Breakout Movie Star and shared Favorite On-Screen Team with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, as “Twilight” took Favorite Movie and “The Twilight Saga” took Favorite Franchise.
Kristen Stewart lost Favorite Movie Actress to Sandra Bullock, who was recently named the top-earning star of last year for the blockbuster performances of her 2009 hits “The Proposal” and “The Blind Side.” Similarly, Robert Pattinson lost Favorite Movie Actor to Johnny Depp, who picked up that award enough in the past 10 years to be named Actor of the Decade.
The night also had its share of surprises. Despite having a terrific year, with starring roles in both “Avatar” and “Star Trek,” Zoe Saldana lost out in the Favorite Breakout Actress category to Miley Cyrus. “Hannah Montana: The Movie” was a box-office success, no question, but Saldana closed out her year with a role in one of the biggest movie releases of all time.
Taylor Swift, nominated in three categories, picked up her first People’s Choice Award. She only took home one of the three, but it was the big one: Favorite Female Artist. Swift walked gracefully onto the stage with an energized crowd cheering her on and delivered an appreciative, gushing acceptance speech directed at her fans.
The viewers’ choices for top TV series were “House” and “The Big Bang Theory” — a surprise win over “How I Met Your Mother” — in Favorite TV Drama and Favorite TV Comedy, respectively. “Supernatural” was another surprise win, beating out “Lost” for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show as anticipation runs high for its upcoming sixth and final season. Newcomers “Glee” and “The Vampire Diaries” were also honored, as Favorite New Comedy and Drama Series, respectively.
The night concluded with the presentation of the Favorite Movie Actor award to Johnny Depp, who had been absent from the show coverage up to that point. “Brüno” star Sacha Baron Cohen delivered an extended introduction for Depp, naming him Actor of the Decade for multiple PCA wins over the past 10 years. The “Alice in Wonderland” star then emerged from backstage to deliver a quiet, heartfelt acceptance speech in his typically humble fashion.
It was a star-studded night, the first of many that we’ll witness as we rush headlong into the 2010 awards season.
